12th Annual SPS Users’ Conference

Dear Friends of SPS ,

It’s already time to register for the 12 th Annual SPS Users’ Conference.   The conference has been scheduled for June 25-27, 2008 .   This year’s conference is being sponsored by Ensign and will be held at the Renaissance Suites at Flatiron in Broomfield, CO.

Set against the natural beauty of the Flatiron Mountain Range, this enchanting, 4 star hotel includes:

  • Indoor pool, whirlpool, and sundeck
  • 24-hour fitness center
  • Free shuttles (across the street) to the premier FlatIron Crossing Shopping Center
  • An upscale Rocky Mountain grill (and bar) with a fresh seafood emphasis
  • Room service and Starbucks® coffee kiosk

This year, we are pleased to welcome the internationally recognized, dynamic speakers John Drebinger, Dr. Jim Thatcher, Brad Gardner, and our own Dr. E. Scott Geller . And, as usual, we will have presentations from other SPS consultants, opportunities for networking with other safety professionals, sessions for benchmarking behavioral safety experiences, and our great poster displays from numerous organizations. The preliminary agenda includes numerous concurrent sessions, including: Improving Safety Culture, Developing Personal Responsibility for Safety, Improving Hazard Recognition and Risk Perception Skills, and Case Studies. We will also be holding an “Ask the Real Experts” session with BBS facilitators and managers as well as a tour of a nearby drilling operation of our sponsor, Ensign. We’ll send all registrants a copy of the final agenda closer to the conference date.

We encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities to share your successes and lessons learned so that everyone can learn from each other.   Therefore, we are asking all attending organizations to participate in the Poster Session.   Attached are guidelines to help you prepare your poster. Also, please consider giving a formal presentation during a concurrent session or participating on a panel. Please complete and return the attached Call for Presenters form if you’re interested or contact your SPS project manager.   We’d be more than happy to help you coordinate a session.

We have arranged for a room rate at the Renaissance hotel for $159 per night . Please contact the hotel directly when making reservations at 303-464-8400 and mention you are an attendee of the Safety Performance Solutions Conference .   Because there are a limited number of rooms available at the conference rate, you may want to confirm your rooms now. Poster Guidelines

  1. Your poster may give an overview of your site’s process, feature a piece of your process you think is unique, show examples of interventions you have implemented, and/or describe improvements made and other successes resulting from observations and the observation data.
  2. Materials may be displayed on a tabletop or mounted on poster board that can then be placed on a table and propped against the wall.   SPS will provide 2 foam core boards per site (32 inches x 40 inches), tape, and punch pins to help you construct your display.   The hotel will provide as much table space as needed, but they’ve asked that no materials be mounted directly to the walls.
  3. Pictures and/or original artwork are always appreciated.   Graphs or charts of interventions, observation data, injury data, etc. would be of interest to conference attendees, as would photographs of improvements made to the workplace as a result of your observation process.
  4. Consider providing copies of materials to share with others, such as your organization’s checklist(s), a written description of your process, sample newsletters, promotional items (buttons or stickers), etc.
  5. Please indicate on the registration form if you will participate.
